Digital items should be freely tradeable. If I buy:
* A ticket to stream a football match (ie. Fc Barcelona TV)
* A license to use a certain software (ie. Adobe)
* A video game (ie. Steam)
* An in game item (like a game card, or a weapon, ie. Blizzard)
* A music album (ie. Apple Music)
* A movie (ie. Amazon Prime)
Then those things should not be locked to my account. I should be able to freely trade those items, and not just within that specific ecosystem. Trading should be possible on open marketplaces, not being restricted by publishers. Of course, publishers and marketplaces could benefit of the trades through royalties for secondary sales.
Data that belongs to an item (say, a piece of plug-in code or the audio and artwork of a music album) should be archived on decentralized storage to guarantee that it will remain available even if publishers go bankrupt or would decide to change their business model. Access should be given to whomever owns the digital content at that time.

The first 10-20 years of having digital items has gotten us where we are right now: most video games have turned into dopamine-fueled lootbox casinos (enabling gambling for kids). Publishers change digital items and content with no way for consumers to ask for a refund. Most business models have evolved into charging rent to access a library of content is changed by vendors at will.
I believe this is not a sustainable model, and that it’s time to build something better.
